Sense and Sensibility

I’ve been reading Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility for my Women’s Lit class.  I’ve never read it before and have never desired to read it.  I found Pride and Prejudice somewhat painful to read many years ago and never attempted Austen again.

I’m through the first volume and surprisingly, I don’t hate it thus far.  It is a little slow and tedious but not too bad.  (Maybe it’s because of all the other books I’ve had to read for class.)

I’ll wait until I’m finished reading it to give a more thorough review, but here’s a random tidbit for now–Mrs. Palmer has to be the most annoying woman in the world.  I even thought this before my professor showed us the first scene with Mrs. Palmer in the BBC version.

I'm 30. When did that happen?

I don't feel 30, so I guess this is my attempt to figure out who I am at this point in my life that has snuck up on me oh-so-quickly.

    • I’m about 200 pages into it, and I will admit that I like it better than Pride and Prejudice. I’m actually starting to enjoy it. *gasp* I might have to attempt P&P again sometime in the near future…

  1. Glad you’re enjoying Sense & Sensibility! I love both Pride & Prejudice and S&S, although I like P&P better. I’m a Jane Austen fan.

Haha, Mrs. Palmer is definitely one of the most annoying!

    • I just found out yesterday that my university is offering a Jane Austen class this summer–all Austen for 4 or 5 weeks. Bet you’d have fun taking that class!
